Attendance
At Witney Community Primary School and Nursery, we believe that regular and punctual attendance at school, are key elements in promoting children’s learning and attainment.
They are also vital in terms of safeguarding, ensuring children can socialise with their peers – more important than ever post lockdown and that children can experience the inspirational speakers we have in school as well as the enrichment and cultural capital activities we offer.
Only by regular attendance can children access the quality education that is offered at our school. We will prioritise severe absence – 50% or less, persistent absence – 90% or less and broken attendance – where a child misses a session on a regular basis, research has shown that this is particularly damaging to a child’s learning in maths.
When asked what they loved about school, our children answered:
Play, friends, learning, reading, maths, everything, French, creativity, the adults, the food, being part of a kind school, science, PE, After school club
Our Attendance Champions are Mark Peacey, headteacher, and Rachel Jones, the office and opearations manager.
We are therefore, committed to the following principles: –
To encourage all pupils to attend school and achieve their maximum potential.
To promote good attendance and punctuality throughout the school
To monitor attendance and use attendance data to work towards agreed targets.
To work in partnership with parents and carers in promoting excellent attendance and punctuality, as well as the LA and other agencies
